Other mini-lessons focus on interesting aspects of the language such as the many uses of common words like leche or various ways to express surprise, annoyance, refusal, etc., as well as words that are easily confused, such as “false friends” or words that look or sound alike. You’ll also find some mini-lessons about tricky points of grammar, and others about the culture and history of Spain and other Hispanic countries.

After viewing one of our videos it’s a good idea to play it again, listening to the audio while reading the transcription. This mini-lesson is about Spain’s artistic heritage. You will learn about two cases of artistic “restoration” that turned out even worse than before, and embarrassed the whole country. What a scandal!

This mini-lesson is based on an animated movie. In this scene you’ll meet Emilio, an old man who lives with his son Xoán and his family. Unfortunately, Emilio is starting to show signs of Alzheimer’s, confusing the present with the past. Xoán gets annoyed with his father.

 

Spanish in minutes - Panda de vagos

In this mini-lesson we’ll see the first clash between Rafa, from Andalusia, and Amaia, from the Basque Country. They meet in a flamenco bar in Seville where Rafa works. Amaia is outraged by Rafa’s stereotypical jokes about Basques… and she lets fly with some insults of her own about Andalusians.

This mini-lesson is based on a clip from the first episode of the TV series «Cuéntame cómo pasó» from TVE (Televisión Española). You’ll meet the Alcántara family having dinner at home. They are all very excited because they are waiting for the delivery of their first television… all except the grandma, that is.
