I'm Jos\u00e9, from Real Spanish.<\/p>\n<p>Do you sometimes get into difficulty because you\u2019re not sure whether to say <em>espa\u00f1ol<\/em> o <em>el<\/em> <em>espa\u00f1ol<\/em>?<\/p>\n<p>When the language is the subject of the verb we use the article, as in <em>El espa\u00f1ol se habla en muchos pa\u00edses<\/em>. In this case <em>El espa\u00f1ol<\/em> is the subject of the verb <em>se habla<\/em>.\u00a0Likewise, the article is used with verbs such as <em>gustar<\/em> or <em>encantar<\/em>. For example, in <em>Me encanta el espa\u00f1ol<\/em>, <em>el espa\u00f1ol<\/em> is the subject of the verb <em>encanta<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>However, it is not used when the language is the direct object of the verb.
