(transcription below).<\/span><\/p>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Hello and welcome to Real Spanish!<\/p>\n<p>Are you still not sure when to use \u00abm\u00e1s que\u00bb or \u00abm\u00e1s de\u00bb? It&#8217;s natural, they sound similar but their meanings are different.<\/p>\n<p>We use \u00abm\u00e1s que\u00bb in comparisons of people, things, places animals, objects, and even actions. Look at these examples:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Susana trabaja m\u00e1s que Pedro. Susanna works more than Pedro.<\/li>\n<li>Me gusta cantar m\u00e1s que bailar. I like singing more than dancing.<\/li>\n<li>Llevo m\u00e1s tiempo en este negocio que t\u00fa. I&#8217;ve been in this business longer than you.<\/li>\n<li>Me f\u00edo de Patricia menos que de su hermana. I trust Patricia less than her sister.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00abM\u00e1s que\u00bb is also used to express superiority or inferiority with an adjective or adverb, according to this structure: \u00abm\u00e1s\/meno + adjective\/adverb + que\u00bb. For example:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Mi hermano es m\u00e1s alto que yo. My brother is taller than me.<\/li>\n<li>La tortuga se mueve m\u00e1s lento que la liebre. The tortoise goes more slowly than the hare.<\/li>\n<li>Ella habla menos que su hermana. She talks less than her sister.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Another use of \u00abm\u00e1s que\u00bb is to express the existence of only one possibility, or of an exception. These examples will help to make this clearer:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Nadie m\u00e1s que el guardia de seguridad puede quedarse en la oficina por la noche. Nobody except\/other than the security guard can stay in the office at night.<\/li>\n<li>No haces m\u00e1s que criticar a tu jefe. You do nothing but criticize your boss.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>As for \u00abm\u00e1s de\u00bb and \u00abmenos de\u00bb, we use these phrases with numbers and quantities. For example:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Tengo m\u00e1s de diez pares de zapatos negros. I have more than 10 pairs of black shoes.<\/li>\n<li>Has llegado m\u00e1s de cuantro horas tarde. You&#8217;re more than four hours late<\/li>\n<li>M\u00e1s de la mitad de los alumnos llegan al colegio sin haber desayunado. More than half of the students arrive at school without having had breakfast.<\/li>\n<li>Menos del 50% de los votantes han votado. Fewer than 50% of the eligible votes have voted.<\/li>\n<li>Esta pel\u00edcula no es apta para ni\u00f1os de menos de 13 a\u00f1os. This movie is not suitable for children under 13 years of age.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>We also use \u00abm\u00e1s de\u00bb and \u00abmenos de\u00bb with relative clauses introduced by \u00ablo que\u00bb: <em>\u00a0For example:<\/em><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Como m\u00e1s de lo que te imaginas. I eat more than you think.<\/li>\n<li>Tengo menos edad que lo que crees. I am younger than you think.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>And before I go, do you know the expression \u00abm\u00e1s de la cuenta\u00bb? It means too much, or more than you should. For example<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Has bebido m\u00e1s de la cuenta, ahora est\u00e1s muy borracho. You&#8217;ve had too much to drink, you are really drunk.<\/li>\n<li>Peso m\u00e1s de la cuenta, tengo que adelgazar.
