«En absoluto» o «absolutamente»?

This is the transcription of the video above. You can choose to view the video before or after reading the text. We suggest you also listen to the audio while reading the text, chiming in with Celia from time to time to improve your pronunciation and intonation. Transcription: Hello! I'm Celia, a teacher from Real Spanish. Do you know the difference between "en absoluto" and "absolutamente"? With "absolutamente" we express agreement but with "en absoluto" we express complete rejection. In the mini-lesson "¡Qué va!" we explain other expressions to reject an offer, request, suggestion or idea. It is one of several lessons on expressions that can be used for specific purposes or contexts. In addition to "¡Qué va!" we already have the video "Salir de dudas", which is about the various ways of expressing doubt or probability, using the subjunctive or the indicative. The mini-lesson "A toda caña" deals with expressions to talk about speed. Do you feel nervous when you have to speak on the phone in Spanish? In "¡Dígame!"  we explain several phrases that are widely used in formal and informal calls. And in "Quien la sigue la consigue" we give you linguistic and cultural guidelines to look for a job in Spanish. Right now we are working on "¡A mí no me torea nadie!" a mini-lesson that focuses on the context of the bullfighting world. If you haven't tried any of our mini-lessons yet, you can try "Es una chapuza" for free, which is about a restoration project that shocked everyone. It's one of our series of mini-lessons based on news clips and documentaries. What are you waiting for? Click below to try it out right now. Un trocito de español: ¿Conoces la expresión «Salir de rositas?

In the video above, Antonio explains some uses of the verb «salir». You can choose to view the video before or after reading the text. The English transcription is below. We suggest you also listen to the audio while reading the text, chiming in with Antonio from time to time to improve your pronunciation and intonation.  English Transcription: Hi! I’m Antonio, a teacher with Real Spanish. Do you know the expression «salir de rositas»?  It means someone has done something to earn a punishment or a scolding, such as a child’s prank, but doesn’t receive blame or punishment. Another expression with «salir» is «salirse con la suya». For example, listen to this conversation between Antonio and Celia, leaving a restaurant. Antonio: I don’t want to go out for dinner with that couple ever again. She’s a real pain, always wants to argue about something. Celia: Well, you’re right, tonight she just wouldn’t stop complaining. Antonio: First she doesn’t eat pizza because she doesn’t eat bread, next she doesn’t like Mexican food, then the bar on the corner is really tacky… Celia: The rest of us wanted to go to Pedro’s bar but in the end she got her own way, as usual. «Salir» has many other uses. You can learn some of them with our mini-lesson «Salir rana». We also have other mini-lessons that explain the different uses of common words. If you haven't tried any of our mini-lessons yet, you can try «Es una chapuza», a free sample lesson about an art restoration project that scandalized everyone. Un trocito de Real Spanish: «¿Cómo andas de dinero?»

This is the English transciption of the video in which Antonio explains the meaning of «andar bien/mal de algo». You can choose to view the video before or after reading the text. We suggest you also listen to the audio while reading the text, chiming in with Antonio from time to time to improve your pronunciation and intonation. Hello! I'm Antonio, a teacher from Real Spanish. We continue to publish our «Trocitos de Real Spanish», which focus on interesting expressions or grammar points, or give you a preview of some of our courses and mini-lessons. Today's snippet explains the phrase andar bien/mal de algo. In this case andar does not mean "to walk". Listen: Celia: I don’t think my sister is coming to spend Christmas with us. Antonio: How so? Celia: She says she’s had to sell the car. She’s really short of money these days. Antonio: Well, right now we are OK for money; we can pay for her train ticket. Celia: That’s a great idea, love! Very kind of you. I’m going to phone her right away.   By the way, have you noticed the use of the subjunctive? Remember that, although creer in the affirmative goes with the indicative, the negative No creer algo always goes with the subjunctive. Well, we plan to create a new mini-lesson focusing on other expressions with andar. There are so many… Don't miss out. Sign up to be notified of new mini-lessons as they are released. ¿Dudas mucho?: Expressing uncertainty or probability in Spanish (Spanish grammar)

The video above is a preview of our mini-lesson on how to express doubts and possibility in Spanish. Below are the English transcription and a more detailed blogpost. Do you know the different ways to express doubt and probability in Spanish? With some expressions you can use only the subjunctive. Look at these examples: -Celia: He traído el paraguas porque es probable que llueva. -Antonio: ¡Buena idea!   Would you like to see the complete mini-lesson? It consists of  - the complete video - an annotated transcription - grammar notes - a couple of interactive exercises Sign up today to learn more:  https://www.realspanish.eu/enBlogpost: Maybe you have time to read this blog; perhaps it will help you with your Spanish. Maybe you need to review expressions of uncertainty and probability which require the use of the indicative or subjunctive. It’s possible that you can find solutions to your problems here. When we are unsure about something we can use various Spanish expressions such as quizás, tal vez, a lo mejor, puede ser, and others. But do you know what form of the verb should follow? Well, it depends on the expression, because some are used only with the subjunctive, some only with the indicative, while others can be used with either, although the subjunctive usually indicates a greater degree of uncertainty. Expressions that are always followed by the indicative   A lo mejor A lo mejor salgo a cenar con amigos esta noche. Igual Igual me tiño el pelo de rojo. Lo mismo (es que) Lo mismo está enfermo. Lo mismo es que está enfermo. Expressions that are always followed by the subjunctive   Puede (ser) que Puede que estés embarazada. Dudo que Dudo que tengas fiebre. Es probable que Es probable que llueva. Es posible que Es posible que no gane este partido de tenis. Expressions that may be followed by the indicative or the subjunctive   In general, the subjunctive is used more often than the indicative, and adds a nuance of less probability. Quizá/Quizás Quizás me compro un coche nuevo. Quizás me compre un coche nuevo. Tal vez Tal vez te mando un mensaje luego. Tal vez te mande un mensaje luego. Posiblemente Posiblemente está enfadado. Posiblemente esté enfadado. . Probablemente Probablemente consigo un trabajo de camarero. Probablemente consiga un trabajo de camarero. Seguramente Seguramente viene al trabajo en metro. Seguramente venga al trabajo en metro. To express uncertainty or probability in the present or future   The present tense is used to refer to the present or future: A lo mejor A lo mejor salgo a cenar con amigos esta noche. (Futuro) Puede (ser) que Puede que estés embarazada. (Presente) Quizá/Quizás Quizás me compro un coche nuevo. (Futuro) Quizás me compre un coche nuevo. (Futuro) Posiblemente Posiblemente está enfadado. (Presente) Posiblemente esté enfadado. (Presente) To express uncertainty or probability in the past The present perfect is used to refer to the recent past:   A lo mejor A lo mejor ha salido a cenar con amigos
